What I Love About Lenexa
An Interview With Brie, A Lenexa Local
The other day I cozied up with a cup of coffee in front of my computer as the all-too-familiar Zoom screen popped up. I was met by the cheery face of Brie, a Lenexa local and colleague, who was anxious to share why she loves living in the city. And boy oh boy, does she love Lenexa!!
How long have you lived in Lenexa?
“ I grew up in Overland Park and then moved to Chicago for college and ended up living there for 10 years. Eventually I longed for my hometown-Kansas CIty-and moved to Lenexa at the end of 2018. After living in Lenexa for over two years, my husband and I agree- We are staying in Lenexa for life!”
What attracted you to Lenexa?
“It’s like the new Leawood…a highly coveted place to live. You feel away from things but also connected to things. You feel in the city as you wander around Lenexa City Center but then drive a mile down the road and see horses in pastures. Right now I’m working remotely, but my office is in the Crossroads. With interstates nearby, it makes for fast travel to anywhere in the Kansas City area. It’s really special to live in such a quiet community, but be so close to everything. We are a young family, with an 8 month old, and we feel Lenexa is a great place to raise a family!”
What do you like to do for fun in Lenexa?
“We love Shawnee Mission Park- we have 3 dogs (golden doodle, yorkie, and teddy), and love taking them to the Dog Park to roam and play. We always take our out-of-town guests to Shawnee Mission Park too, as there are so many things to do there-from boating to hiking to archery to a fun game of disc golf. Pre-COVID my husband and I loved going to the nearby AMC for date night. We also enjoy Sidepockets for Trivia nights… they might even be doing some socially distanced events now. And we LOVE City Center… it’s such a fun place to hang out. I am a figure skating coach, so now we’re just hoping that an ice-skating rink will open in Lenexa someday (Please!!!)”
Do you have any favorite restaurants nearby?
“Saints Pub is great, one of our favorites- really good food and low-key. But it is also super fun for watching sports. Silo is my favorite place to dine. The views are gorgeous and the appetizer with the goat cheese and local honey is incredible. I order it every time I’m there.”
Where do you do your shopping?
“McKeevers Market for groceries mostly- they have specialty foods at very good prices. We love the home-cooked meals… shopping at McKeevers reminds me of the Cosentino’s Market in the Power and Light District in downtown Kansas City. We also do a lot of shopping at Costco and Aldi. Oak Park Mall is very close too!”
Our call was a brief 14 minutes, but the energy Brie illuminated as she talked about her beloved City of Lenexa inspired me for the rest of the day. She has really embraced all that Lenexa has to offer and she truly cannot imagine having her home or raising her family anywhere else. She has discovered so many of the special places in Lenexa… have you?
